The Office of the President – TAMISEMI in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Tanzania Examinations Council has completed the Selection Exercise for Students who will join Form One in various government schools in January, 2023.
A total of 1,073,941 students who passed the NECTA Standard seven examinations and completing Primary Education in 2022 who were announced by the Tanzania Examinations Council have been involved in the allocation excercise to join the form one in 2023. Among them, there are 514,846 boys and 559,095 girls who are all eligible to join the First Form Secondary studies in Schools of the Government.
The number of students who got the marks required to join the first form in January, 2023 in the standard seven exam in 2022 has increased to 166,139 students equal to an increase of 18.30 percent compared to the 907,802 students who got marks to enable them to join the first form in 2022. those who passed and were assigned to join the First Form include 2,775 Special Needs Students equal to 0.26 percent of which 1,491 are Boys and 1,284 are Girls.

Criteria Used In Form One Selection
The criteria used in the form one selection for the 2023 academic year is the student performance in the 2022 NECTA standard seven examination. Every student who sit for the National standard seven examination in 2022 and achieved a total passing marks between 121 and 300 has been selected to join government ordinary level school
The Government Secondary Schools assigned to students are divided into two categories: boarding schools and day schools. Boarding schools are classified into three types: Boarding Secondary Schools for Students with the Highest Achievement (Special Schools), Boarding Secondary Schools – Vocational, and Normal Boarding Secondary Schools. Boarding schools are national, and as such, they are meant to accept students from various regions of the country depending on the distribution of places defined by the criteria set to develop nationalism.
