About Rukwa Region
Rukwa Region was formed in 1974 by the merger of some territory from the Tabora (Mpanda) and Mbeya (Sumbawanga) Regions. However, during the Fourth Phase Government’s mandate, the partition of Rukwa Region and the formation of a new Katavi Region were formally allowed in July 2010.
The Region is located between latitudes 70 and 90 degrees south of the Equator, as well as longitudes 30 and 320 degrees east of Greenwich. This area is bounded to the north by Katavi and to the south by Songwe. Its southern border is shared with Zambia, while its western border is shared with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
