Minister Blade Nzimande, when spoke about the Department of Higher Education’s preparedness for the 2023 academic year, reporting that the scheme’s online application portal had received a total of 1,131,419 applications by 20th January 2023.
He added the complete list of all NSFAS approved students 2023 will be available online in 07 February 2023, and that students should visit the NSFAS website on or after the 7th of February 2023 to check their status. Students will be required to use their student numbers to check if they have been successful.

All NSFAS-eligible students must register for the 2023-2024 academic year. They can do so by going to their respective institutions, where they have been admitted, to register for the 2023 academic year. No fee will be charged for registration for these students. This means that no NSFAS funded student whose name appears on the list should be asked to pay registration fees as announced by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Dr Blade Nzimande on Tuesday, 24 January.
