Introduction to the Law School of Tanzania
The Law School of Tanzania, also known as the “School Of Law,” is a significant advancement in the legal education sector of Tanzania. It was established in 2007 through the enactment of the Law School of Tanzania Act and officially commenced operations on May 2nd of the same year. This milestone holds great importance as it signifies a pivotal moment in the improvement of practical skills for aspiring lawyers within the country.
Prior to the establishment of the School, future lawyers in Tanzania acquired their practical skills through on-the-job training programs managed by the Attorney General’s Chamber. Later, some universities established the Externship system to provide practical training to lawyers who want to become professionals. However, these systems have been superseded by the Practical Legal Training Programme, which is now run by the Tanzania Law School.
